The Society for Photographic Education: Northeast Region
(SPE-NE) is a diverse group sharing a common interest in the advancement of
photography as a means of creative expression and cultural insight. SPE-NE
provides forums through which we can achieve our goals of promoting a broader
understanding of the medium and fostering the development of its practice,
teaching, scholarship, and criticism.
The Northeast region includes the states of
Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and
Vermont as specified by the national organization. Eight regional organizations flourish under the umbrella of
the National Society, each serving the special needs of its local constituency.
To create a sense of community within every geographic area, the regions
organize annual regional conferences each Fall, which range over a wide variety
of topics and bring together SPE members in an arena of scholarly inquiry and
fellowship. Membership to SPE
automatically assigns you to a regional organization.
The National Society for Photographic Education (SPE) also hosts an annual
conference each Spring in different cites alternating between the east coast,
central states, and west coast.
