Request for Submission: SPE Northeast Exhibition
We are planning our 2006-2007 exhibition schedule and are requesting
submissions for inclusion in our SPE Northeast Exhibition. We would like
to invite you to submit images via a CD ROM or slides for possible
inclusion.
Westover has enjoyed a long tradition of presenting excellence in visual
art through its guest artist exhibitions. Our visiting artists benefit
from exposure to an inquiring student body and the western Connecticut
audience. The exhibitions expand our students’ appreciation of fine art
and the artists provide positive exemplars for choosing a university and
career in the arts.
Please send a CV and a maximum of twelve images that illustrate your
current work. Images need to be labeled, clearly and dated. Slides or CDs
may be submitted until November 15, 2006. Please do not send originals and be sure to include a SASE.
Details:
1. Submission deadline: November 15, 2006
2. Notification: December 15 2006
3. Delivery of work: January 15, 2007
4. Dates: We would like to run the show from Feb 1 2007- March15, 2007.
5. Insurance: All work is fully insured during its stay here on campus
6. Sales: Any prints sold during the exhibition will not be subject to a
gallery commission. I will put any interested parties in contact directly
with you.
7. The work should be ready to hang. The Schumacher Gallery is a
professional gallery with plaster walls over 3/4” plywood.
8. Please let me know if you will need any pedestals for three-dimensional
work.
9. I will take care of all of the hanging, wall plaques, publicity etc.
10. Please ship or deliver the work to Westover School, 1237 Whittemore Road, Middlebury, CT 06762.

Sincerely,

Michael Gallagher

Deborah Bright and Ivana George

Unrealizable Dreams featuring the photography of Deborah Bright and Ivana George will travel to Las Vegas, NV this month. As many of you know, this successful exhibition was featured last year at Bridgewater State College. This month from September 19th to October 14th at the Contemporary Arts Collective (CAC) the exhibition will run with a larger selection of images by each artist. I will be in attendance at the opening reception on Friday, September 29 at 5:30PM. I will give an Artist talk at 6PM about the artistic process of creating the Chimera series featured in the exhibition. Regrettably, Deborah Bright will not attend the exhibition due to being out of the country for research. The curator of CAC indicated that the newspaper, the “Las Vegas SUN” plans to publish a short article about the exhibition on September 22nd and/or September 29th. Since most of you don't live near Vegas, if you want to read the article you can look for it at their website http://www.lasvegassun.com/.
If anyone wants to meet me in fabulous Las Vegas and make it a getaway weekend, please RSVP regarding the reception and artist talk, by calling me at 617-755-5263.

Unrealizable Dreams: A Photographic Exploration
Excerpt from the press release:
“Perhaps our minds are the only place left
where we can experience true privacy. In
dreams we are able to live out our heart's
desires in secret. Viewers of this exhibition
will be treated to a trip into the dreams and
fantasies of these artists and in the process
be challenged to question their cultural
assumptions about sexuality and identity.”
