THERE WILL BE NO ON SITE REGISTRATION FOR ALL CONFERENCE EVENTS AT LIGHT WORK.
We are both sorry we were unable to accommodate additional members and thrilled at the overwhelming response we had with registration. In the future we will continue to program dynamic regional events, being sure to secure venues with a greater capacity for participation.
The Northeast Region requests Nominees for the following volunteer positions on the regional board: the post of Vice Chair and the post of Secretary. The two elected posts each run for two-year terms, commencing at the National Conference in San Francisco, March 22-25, 2012.
Please email your nomination to nominate@spenortheast.org by September 20th. You may nominate yourself or others, but do note they do need to be regular members of SPE in good standing.
In the hopes to increase participation, this year we will be holding the election online through a free service that specializes in internet elections. The election will be held in October and the results will be announced at the Northeast regional conference in Syracuse, NY at the business meeting.
A Joint Conference with the Mid Atlantic Region November 3-5, 2011 Syracuse, NY Light Work & Syracuse University
Keynote: Alec Soth Honored Educator: Doug DuBois Featured Speakers: Mary Virginia Swanson and Darius Himes
SPE’s Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions are joining forces for this conference on the current state of publishing. Photographers are facing a very different world of publishing today with fewer options to work with a book publisher and entirely new opportunities for self-publishing and online promotion. The 2011 conference presents viewpoints from artists, publishers, and bloggers who have found unique ways to bring the best photography to the image hungry public. Events include lectures, panel discussions, portfolio reviews, exhibition, including the exhibition “From Here to There: Alec Soth’s America” at the Everson Museum of Art.
Submit a Proposal: Proposals can be submitted for any of the following presentation formats:
Lecture: presentations on a current topic, theory, educational issue or another artist’s work Imagemaker: presentation on your own artistic work Panel: a group led by a moderator to discuss a chosen topic
To submit your proposal, email the following to proposals@spenortheast.org - your name, address, phone, email, title of submission, and additional speakers/panelists - a 500-word abstract detailing the presentation - a 200-word biographical summary for each of the speakers intended - up to 10 images (1,024 x 768 pixel, jpeg, minimum compression) or up to 2 minutes of video (800 x 600, mp4 or mov)
Preference will be given to proposals that address the conference theme, however all proposals will be considered. Presenters will receive conference fee waivers. We encourage both members and non-members to submit proposals for consideration. While we encourage membership, the aim of the regional conference is to bring together voices from all areas of the photographic field.
When our first creative photograph breaks through, it surprises us by transcending its subject. The picture happens because we are awake…and we have no idea how we got there. Find out what lies out beyond your habitual approaches to art and learn to investigate that crucial skill, your own creativity. Sean Kernan teaches a series of exercises to apply to dailyassignments to expand our awareness, lead us to this creative state, and transformour imagery.Awakeness and awareness in a strongly supportive group is our focus, and we will look for it with our cameras, our bodies and our minds.
Welcome to the SPE NE announcement page! All calls for entry and news from our region and members will be posted and tagged here. To post something to this page, please send an email to webmaster@spenortheast.org
